The Global South House pre-launch at London Climate Action Week highlighted South-South collaboration, international cooperation, and global leadership in innovative climate financing. On June 25th, The Global South House took its first steps during London Climate Action Week with a pre-launch event that introduced the initiative to key decision-makers and strategic actors in global philanthropy. The session brought together representatives from socio-environmental funds, corporate and family foundations, international funding mechanisms, and partner networks, in a warm and strategic breakfast setting where the Global South invited the Global North to “take a seat at the table” and share dialogue on how financial resources can and should reach frontline communities safely, directly, and effectively, supporting the protection of territories and care for people and the climate.Juliana Tinoco (Socio-environmental Funds of the Global South / Alianza Socioambiental Fondos del Sur), Ana Valéria Araújo (Fundo Brasil / Rede Comuá), Josimara Baré (Fundo Indígena Rutî / Community Funds of the Brazilian Amazon Network), and Jenny Hodgson (Global Fund for Community Foundations / #ShiftThePower) shared their experiences and reflections on climate funding and socio-environmental justice, in a conversation moderated by Dina Zayed, independent consultant in international development and climate adaptation. For Juliana Tinoco, the success of the event reinforced the central idea of The Global South House: to be a living platform capable of connecting philanthropy funds of and for the Global South with other networks and strategic actors in the field around solutions that ensure resources reach the communities confronting and resisting climate and socio-environmental crises, emphasizing decentralization and locally led governance.“A community is not something created top-down,” reflects Tinoco, “but it manifests when different organizations articulate and recognize each other. The community already exists. What we are doing is providing visibility and creating co-creation opportunities for this potential to express itself”.Choosing London Climate Action Week as the pre-launch space was no coincidence, as it is one of the main global platforms where decision-makers in philanthropy and climate finance meet. The experience in London demonstrated, concretely, that the power of philanthropy of and for the Global South deserves to be recognized and valued, with The Global South House strategically positioning itself as a networked platform in motion that already attracts international attention. The pre-launch in London marked the beginning of a series of actions by The Global South House, which will continue strengthening its global presence and coordination, preparing for COP30 in Belém, with a clear goal of co-creating solutions, fostering strategic dialogue, and ensuring that Global South philanthropy becomes an increasingly effective instrument for supporting communities through direct funding mechanisms that expand autonomy, capacity for action, and social, environmental, and climate transformation.
