Funding that reaches the frontlines: WINGSForum session explores power, trust and resources through an interactive game

The Global South House and partners will host a session at one of philanthropy’s major global gatherings

How can we transform the way organizations and movements on the frontlines of climate, gender and socio-environmental justice are funded? This is the question guiding the session “Bridges, not barriers: transforming the way we fund frontline movements,” taking place on September 28, from 12:00 to 1:15 p.m., at WINGSForum 2026 in Montréal.

The activity is organized in partnership by Human Rights Funders Network (HRFN), GAGGA, The Global South House, Alianza Socioambiental Fondos del Sur, Rede Comuá, Prospera and ELAS+ Giving for Change, bringing together diverse funding experiences led by and connected to organizations and movements from the Global South.

Through the interactive board game “Reverse Role,” participants will be invited to take on different roles, face dilemmas inspired by real-life situations, and make decisions about resources, risks and priorities. The activity aims to foster reflection on power, trust, access to resources and the barriers faced by organizations working directly in territories.

The session will also explore the role of women’s, feminist and socio-environmental funds as essential infrastructure for connecting resources with communities and movements working for climate and gender justice, territorial rights and environmental protection.

At the end of the session, participants will discuss more flexible, long-term and trust-based funding practices, and reflect on concrete changes they can make to their own approaches to funding and building partnerships.
